This hotel was a total let down! I didn't have high expectations given the fact that it is a 2 star hotel... however given its positive reviews I was hoping for something more. There is only one lift that fits one person at a time, we were told to avoid touching the walls of inside the lift as this might cause it to block, which it inevitably did. Given its 5 stories, it is difficult to take the stairs especially if you have additional luggage. The room was a disgrace, there was a single plug available in a room fitted for 3 persons, there was a strong sewage smell coming from the bathroom and not enough hot water to take a full body shower. I will let the pictures speak for me when it comes to the standard of the room. In conclusion the only positive thing about the hotel was its location, and even so I would not recommend this stay to anyone as it doesn't cater to physical impairments and it doesn't provide a up-kept space.

My brother and I stayed here for 4 nights in October booking several months in advance. I was concerned over numerous negative reviews and planned to book something else. Options shrank as it got closer to our trip so we just decided to keep this reservation. My primary reason for choosing Duas Nacoes was its location; in a pedestrian zone right in the middle of the central district. The Baixa-Chiado metro station which serves the green and blue lines was a 7 minute walk. Rossio Square is an 8 minute walk. Praça do Comércio was a 5 minute walk. The Santa Justa Elevator is right around the corner. You get the point. For better or worse you're right in the middle of the action come night time. There are street vendors, outdoor cafes, souvenir shops, drug dealers selling hash, bakeries, beggars, and they all want your money. We both found the hotel very clean and comfortable. Air conditioning was adequate but an open window felt nice. I booked a triple room and the space was great. The bathroom was plenty big and the water was hot which was appreciated. It also had a bidet. Don't know if it's just our toilet but one must press the button and keep it pressed until enough water flushes, usually a few seconds or so. I will say that whatever the maids clean the floors with is very, very strong. Not in a foul way, but it lingered long after they left. The mattresses and pillows were comfortable so naps and sleep were easy. Drapes helped. Occasionally you'll hear loud music coming from outside, but remember; you're in the middle of the action. If a little city noise doesn't bother you though it's no problem. Just a friendly note: Unless you're a parent with kids, you'll likely be approached by a man whispering "hash? marijuana? coke?" A simple no does the job. Not the hotel's fault, of course, but just wanted to put it out there. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. They all spoke great English. You can keep your luggage there until check in so you're able to sightsee. The construction that previous reviewers mentioned is long gone. One quirky thing is the elevator/lift. It can only hold one person at a time. We were instructed to either ride solo or send our luggage up/down but not both. The elevator has sensors that stop it if tripped. I myself got trapped once and my luggage tripped the sensor on checkout day. It's on the slow side and you may find yourself just taking the stairs most of the time. We had breakfast once here. A few cold cuts, juices, coffee, hot bar with eggs, bacon, yogurt, fruit, that sort of thing. Compared to the other hotels we stayed at it was OK. It was convenient for us the morning we checked out but at €10 the cafes nearby provided better value and food. We were allowed to refill our water bottles in the breakfast room which was appreciated. The hotel can arrange airport transfer for €20. We elected to do this the morning we checked out and waited around in the dining room after breakfast. About 7 minutes after our scheduled pickup I checked in with the helpful lady at the front desk about status. She told us the driver was stuck at the airport so we ended up booking an Uber at half the price. We had a little bit of a time buffer but this would've been a stressful irritant if our flights were earlier. Uber is fantastic (and cheap) in Lisbon BTW. The price in advance was a really good deal in this part of town. TripAdviser and some hotel sites rate this as a 2 star property but it's clearly a 3. I'd recommend it to anyone but a light sleeper or someone with severe weight problems. We both were pleasantly surprised with our stay at Duas Nacoes and would stay again without hesitation. TIP: because it's in a pedestrian zone taxis/Ubers are unable to drop you off directly at the hotel and will usually leave you on a nearby, parallel side street (Rua dos Sapateiros). If you're trying to go somewhere from the hotel it's usually better to meet at one of the nearby squares to avoid criss crossing back and forth through the one way streets.

I had stayed at this hotel before in April 2023. This was my second stay. There are no building works at this hotel at all and anyone worrying about has no need to worry. We stayed in the triple family room. The bathroom was huge, with a large walk in shower that ran very hot with excellent water pressure. A toilet , bidet, wash basin, cabinet and large mirror all in a large space. There is a hairdryer available in the bathroom. The room itself was cleaned and attended to every day by housekeeping. Three beds and a two sets of doors which open out onto a small balcony. Its not big enough to sit on I hasten to add. But opening the doors allows plenty of fresh air to the room. The air conditioning unit works great. If you have not booked breakfast you can now pay on the day if you want breakfast at a cost of 10 Euros. Lots of the guests seemed to enjoy brekfast every day. The lift is still slow but you get used to it, it did not cause me any major stress, perhaps because I knew what to expect. As before if you need USB outlets to charge your phone/watches/cameras etc then make sure to take a travel adaptor usb hub. The hotel is in a great location for local transport, Trams, Buses, Metro with over land train stations a short journey away. Presently (October 2023) there are city works on the aquaduct to improve drainage and reduce flooding. Tram 15 is curently running from Cais De Sodre to Belem and is not departing from Praca Da Figueira. In the time I was there only modern Buses and Trams were on the 15E Route. Tram 28 is terminating its route at Graca, whilst still running from Cemitério de Prazeres. Hotel Duas Nacoes is not a five star hotel but it is clean, in a great location and given how much time you spend in your room as opposed to being outside it offers everything you need. I would happily stay here again.

If you are a solo traveller you will be treated poorly here. I booked and paid for my reservation in January and now in September the best they could do is give me a room that is a closet with a bathroom. Technically it had a window however it looked out to an alcove between buildings with no air or light coming in. Yep let’s put the single lady in a crappy corner and not be willing to move her either - grrrrrrr. Recent renovations mean the bathroom was updated and the bed was super comfortable but that can’t make up for the location. Can’t recommend this hotel.

Centrally located hotel in Lisbon. Handy for all activities and within walking distance of most key points including the trams and the waterside. Rooms are compact, clean and with comfortable beds and good showers. Breakfast is basic but does the job although the coffee machine produces the most dreadful liquid so avoid! Being centrally located does mean its not the quietest hotel so earplugs are a must and you can only fit one person and a bag into the lift. Would recommend asking for a room on a higher floor where possible to reduce street noise. Your're not paying a fortune however and its over a Gelateria which is always handy.
